NHPG Redesign

The National Health Policy Group (NHPG) is a leading health care policy and consulting group with a special focus on improving policy and practice for health plans and providers that serve high-risk Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. NHPG provides strategic planning and government relations services to health plans and providers, trade associations, health care coalitions, state agencies and other stakeholders in the areas of specialty care for high-risk beneficiaries.

NHPG needed a clean, accessible site that provided the employees of its member organizations with access to their content, but didn't want to spend their days managing individual accounts. They had also had trouble in the past with vendors who used proprietary solutions that left them tied to the vendor for better or worse.

Our solution? Moving the existing NHPG site to Umbraco, an open-source platform based on Microsoft .Net technologies. In addition to providing the bulk of NHPG's requirements "out of the box", the combination of a popular technological base and freely available and documented source code ensured that NHPG's new site will be vendor independent. We then took the existing membership system within Umbraco and customized it to allow NHPG's member organizations to manage their own individual accounts. Each organization can now create individual accounts under their control, allowing them to tailor their use of NHPG's resources to suit their needs, while allowing NHPG to retain control over their content.
